I have a confession: this product and I did not start off on the right foot. I picked up the Sunday Riley Blue Moon cleansing balm, fully expecting it to be a dreamy, end-of-day cleanse moment… and instead my face was like, absolutely not. It wasn’t that my skin is sensitive (it’s really not), but around my eyes it just felt irritating, and the gritty texture threw me off completely. So I did what I always do when a cleanser doesn’t spark joy on my face, I moved it to the shower.
And honestly? That’s where the magic happened.
If you're like me and deal with keratosis pilaris, the tiny bumps on the backs of your arms, you know how frustrating it can be. You need exfoliation, but so many KP treatments forget the other half of the equation: hydration. This balm’s slightly gritty texture turned out to be perfect for gently exfoliating those bumps, while the oily, nourishing base kept my skin from feeling stripped or dry. Think sea salt scrub energy, but softer and way more moisturizing.
What really sold me is that I’ve had KP my whole life and treated it for nine years in a dermatology clinic. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: skincare habits often matter more than prescriptions when it comes to KP. Consistent exfoliation paired with moisture can make a huge difference, and this product quietly checks both boxes.
Would I use it on my face? No.
Would I repurchase it specifically for my KP? Absolutely.
Sometimes the win isn’t loving a product exactly how it was marketed—it’s figuring out how it works for you. A little curiosity (and a willingness to repurpose) can turn a skincare disappointment into a surprisingly good solution. And that, honestly, is half the fun of skincare.
